The Alumni Records Office has sent me thefollowing changes of address. So, get out thelittle green address books and make the following changes: Herbert G. Parker, 1656North Talbot, Indianapolis 2, Ind., and Francis B. Riley, 8106 East Jefferson Ave., Apt.209D, Detroit, Mich. I wonder if you all findit as hard as I do to recognize our Ben underthe name of Francis B.
At the last meeting of the Dartmouth Secretaries, Mose Perkins substituted for yoursecretary. And he did a grand job. I havea letter from him giving the details of thevarious meetings. Thank you, Mose.
One of the Rhode Island papers apparentlyruns a column each week headed "A RhodeIsland Profile." There came to me recentlya copy of one of those columns headed, "Dr.Ruggles regrets slowdown but learns to livewith it." It then proceeds to give a short resume of the life of our classmate, Art Ruggles. It seems that in 1939 the outbreak ofthe war found Art in Paris with small chanceof getting out. Governor Vanderbilt of RhodeIsland went to the Secretary of State andasked him to make arrangements to get anessential citizen, Dr. Arthur H. Ruggles, outof Paris and home again. Art came home andwent to work for the citizens of Rhode Island. He became president of the American Psychiatric Association and a member of theNational Committee for Mental Hygiene.Though supposedly retired, he is still a member of the state 'parole Board. Art meetsregularly with the staffs of the Butler Hospital and the Bradley Home for the care ofchildren with nervous disorders. The latterseems to be the chief hobby of our classmate.Art says, "If I had my psychiatric career torelive, I' would devote most of my studiesand efforts to the six-to-eighteen-year-old period." He believes that at this age treatmentand preventive measures are most effective.
It has been my great good fortune to be associated with many psychiatrists. I have to say that their is no doubt in my mind that Art tops them all. And that, dear Art, is not apple sauce.
You will all be amused by a remark of Art's in a recent note. "I just don't like portraits or profiles of men. If it were a beautiful woman, it would be different."
Which simply goes to prove that the old saw is correct: "A man isn't old till he stops looking." Good for you, Arthur! !
I could wish that my classmates were not so darned modest. Please send me stories of yourselves. We really are interested in everything that happens to you boys or yours.
So long, fellows. I am going to quit and write to Roy Hatch. So many of my letters say, "When is Roy coming East?" Do you remember the class song he produced thirty years ago, Vox Clamantis? I have just been reading it over again.
