Our regular correspondent from the San Francisco area, Jimmie Townsend, writes that he has gained fifteen pounds since he was in Hanover last summer. He has a special recipe for this. Doubtless he will give it to any one without charge. He has been so occupied with securing this result that he has not seen the other '94 men in his district. We are still awaiting Major Tenney's report about them.

The Boston Gang met not long ago with seven present: T. Allen, B. Lyon Smalley, C. Bartlett, Kent Knowlton, P. Marden and the secretary. A main topic of conversation was the all-powerful effect of sulfa and penicillin in prolonging the lives of '94 men. The Gang hopes soon to have another meeting with Victor Spooner present as the guest of honor. He will be on his way to his summer home in North Bridgton, Maine.

Henry Howland, in sending his regrets (because, the notice did not reach, him in time) told us of his change of address (Nelson Street, R.F.D. 4, Georgetown.) For a man who is in his seventy-sixth year and who has had coronary thrombosis, Henry seems to be doing quite a bit of farm work and also making himself useful generally, including being Trustee of the Library and Deacon in the church. He and Jimmie Townsend must have been in "cahoots" because what Jimmie has gained Henry has lost, less two pounds. Says Henry, "I am feeling better in every way."

Herbert Wilson does not send too cheerful a report about his health, but says, "My doctor is unable to find much the trouble with me." Still practicing law, although he sees his clients at the house.

In order to stretch this column a little longer, note may be taken of the fact that the secretary is vice chairman of the Greater Boston Committee opposed to the present enactment of peacetime conscription. Partly moved by what his son writes him concerning Army training, he does not believe that universal military training is desirable, nor does he believe that it is necessary in order to prevent another war. Indeed, he is of the opinion that it will put us in greater danger of having another war.

Secretary, 74 Kirkland St., Cambridge (38), Mass. Treasurer, 1801 23rd Ave., Vero Beach, Fla.
