FOURTEEN MEN OF DARTMOUTH assembled at the Hillendale Country Club on the evening of May 24, to welcome a fifteenth, who had come from Hanover to tell us what is going on at Dartmouth and Hanover today, and what is being planned for tomorrow. He discharged the assignment superbly, after all had put away a fine dinner, including real beef steaks, large and juicy. The guest was Bill McCarter '19, Director of Athletics, who needs no further introduction to the readers of this MAGAZINE. The others present were: Bob Bartlett '16, Harry Brown '12, Larry Dalton '18, Brad Foss '25, Bill Grant '19, Hal Hastings '00, Bob Hazard '29, Barry Hoffman '36, Jack Hughes '44, Ben Kenney (father of Dick '40), Francis Nelson '26, Tom Proctor '18, Phil Sutherland '38, Joe Vancisin '44. President Don Mason '13 was unavoidably absent. All agreed that this was the best and most interesting meeting we have had in many months. Brad Foss '25 was elected President for the coming year.
The members of the Baltimore Club have been saddened by the death, on June 28, of Carlton Soule '06, a former president of the Club, and the only man who has been an active member continuously since its organization in 1915. He was ill at the time of our meeting in May, and was greatly missed on that occasion, but none of us had any idea that his illness was critical. Of Carlton's long and successful career as an engineer others must tell. To us of the Dartmouth Club he was a wise and understanding friend on whose loyalty we could always depend. His passing leaves a gap in our ranks that no one else can fill.
