OFFICIAL PERMISSION ALLOWING the return of moderate drinking in civilian dormitories and in fraternity houses was announced last month by the President's Office, along with the approval for the operation of a tap-room dispensing beer in the basement of College Hall.
In issuing the memorandum to the student body on the liberalization of the College's rules on drinking, President Dickey stressed the fact that the change "is not something to be had either as a matter or right or as an irrevocable grant."
With the granting of approval by the New Hampshire State Liquor Commission, plans were carried through which started the tap-room in operation, under a special license issued to the Hanover Inn.
Solution of the local beer problem was reached after recommendations on the subject were submitted by the Committee on Social Organization.
