During June the weather in Hanover and hereabouts was fickle, now too near frost and then almost too hot for comfort. June 8, Mrs. Stevens and I indulged in a luscious Sunday dinner at the Dartmouth Outing Club. The steak, aided and abetted by the greenest of green peas, boiled potatoes and salad, incited us to expressions of pleasure and satisfaction. We motored to Hanover in semi-winter dress and outer wraps and with the heater buzzing out welcome warmth in our car. Memories of class breakfasts eaten in the same room by '9sers and their families floated through my mind. I wonder how many of us will eat breakfast there again in 1950.

From a letter received, the second week in June, from Joel Harley's bright and alert daughter Gertrude (Mrs. Francis Lamb) I read the cold news that in Madison, Wis., on almost the last day of May, frost and snow descended upon that University city, and that within a few days thereafter the thermometer there registered 80 degrees.

It was good to see Joel and Mrs. Harley and Gertrude, including, also, Frank Austin, in Winter Park, Florida. I regret to say, however, that Joel has been ill and still is.

I had heard that "H. Dan" was not very well; but he writes that he sent a letter to "Dutch" Cochran during the latter's illness and as to himself, he writes, "There is nothing to report that differs from what I have sent you already. I am plodding along in the same old rut."

"Windsor" Sears has recovered well from his operation.

Harlan Cochran has suffered greatly and continuously ever since undergoing a very serious operation last spring. He wrote me a few weeks ago that he was feeling somewhat better and mentioned, with appreciation, that "H. Dan" had called on him.

Before these notes are published in the October MAGAZINE, the Open Letter issue of the Post-Reunionist will have been mailed.
