IN ADDITION TO the Great Issues Course for seniors, five new courses will be offered for the first time this fall. Three are in Philosophy and one each in Mathematics and Botany.

Open to freshmen and sophomores, Problems of Philosophy (Philosophy 2) will discuss the conditions of human knowledge; man and nature; the individual and society and the problem of religious belief. It will be taught by Professors Mandelbaum and Wheelwright and Assistant Professor Gramlich.

Professor Wheelwright will also teach a course on Plato (Philosophy 15) for upperclassmen. Professor Mandelbaum will teach a course in Aesthetics (Philosophy 45), dealing with the nature of art, of aesthetic experience and principles of criticism. It is open to juniors and seniors and sophomores of high standing.

Professor Lyon will conduct a new course on soils (Botany 51), open to juniors and seniors. The new course in mathematics (Mathematics 1) is intended solely for students who are not majoring in science and do not wish to devote more than one semester to this field.
