A lifetime pass to all Big Nine football games was given to William D "Bill" Knight '08 this fall in appreciation of his 35 years as a football official.

Bill, who untangled many a gridiron pile of the brightest stars in the Yost-Stagg-Zuppke-Rockne era of Midwestern football, hung up his striped shirt this year after a career which he began while a student at Harvard Law School.

Before moving to the Midwest to establish his law practice, he refereed high school games in the Greater Boston area. Practically all present Big Nine football coaches played in games in which he officiated and all Big Nine stadiums have been built since he joined the Midwestern Conference.

Bill also served two terms on the Dartmouth College Athletic Council. He is a former president of both the Winnebago County and Illinois State Bar Associations and was state's attorney of Winnebago County for two terms. He is still practicing law at Rockford, Ill. His son Bill Jr. is a member of the Class of 1950.
