THE EDITORS HOPE that the ALUMNI MAGAZINE this year may enable its readers to share in many of the high spots of the new Great Issues Course. Full texts of important lectures by nationally prominent speakers will be printed when possible, and occasionally abstracts of the talks will be presented.
This month we are privileged to present in full the "keynote" lecture of the course, delivered by Archibald MacLeish to a rapt senior class on the night of October 9. It is entitled What Is a Great Issue? and starts on Page 15.
Finances seem to figure largely in the November contents. The official opening of the campaign to raise .$4,000,000 for the Hopkins Center Project and the personnel of the national campaign organization are reported in an article starting on Page 23. The annual financial report from Treasurer Halsey C. Edgerton '06 to the Trustees, for the fiscal year 1946-47, is summarized on Pages 21-22.
President Dickey's brief address at the Convocation exercises opening Dartmouth's 179th year will be found on Page 20, and with it a part of his address at last, month's Bennington College inauguration.
