We had a very nice meeting of the class the night before the Harvard game at the University Club and later adjourned to the City Club to listen to the pep talks that were handed out in the same old style; this being the first one we had heard for many a day. The following fellows were present: Fred Johnson, GordonWeinz, Bertrand French, Stan Leighton, Harold Clark, Allen Newton, Herb Hawes, BobHolmes, Joe Worthen, Clark Saville, DickLord, Clifford Blake, Cad Cummings, SandyHooker, Mike Farley, Hal Pratt, Art Swenson,Jim Hitchcock, Bob Bums and Harry Floyd. We were very sorry Harry Burroughs couldn't make it. He is in the hospital with stomach ulcers and was very sorry to have missed the crowd. Dick Lord had a very interesting letter addressed to Harry, and all who were at the meeting signed it. It seemed rather strange to have a meeting without Harry. Dick Locke said he is taking it easy and doesn't go out nights any more so he would have to be excused from attending.
Lynde Tucker wrote that his son, Dartmouth '36, and his bride were ending their honeymoon at their home preparatory to going to the game the next day, so he couldn't be present. Phil Rose sent his greetings to the '09 group and wished he could have been present to see the crowd. He said he is plugging along in his small suburban parish, acting also as probation officer of the Town Court and school attendance officer for the Town of Glastonbury, Conn. His daughter, Carol, is in her third year as director of religious education in the Church of the Crossroads in Honolulu. During his August vacation, Phil was at the Isles of Shoals and Stowe, Vermont.
Doc Pearson wrote he is spending the winter in San Diego, California. There is no use talking—these fellows who are in the teaching profession have it all over the rest of us in the business world. I would love to be in his place, spending the winter in San Diego.
I recently received a clipping from the NewBritain Herald showing our genial Curt Sheldon signing 890 bonds as Treasurer of the City. We sure did miss Curt as he generally appears at all of the Harvard games.
Mr. and Mrs. B. H. Dudley, Mr. and Mrs.R. L. Wing and Dr. and Mrs. Wm. F. Holzer were among recent visitors to the Hanover Inn.
Our books containing the letters from Freddie Carroll have all been taken up and we still owe $193 which Bob Burns and I have agreed with the printer to make up if we do not receive any more receipts. We would be very happy if any of the class feel they can give an added contribution. We must settle this with the printer so that any further donations should be sent in as soon as possible.
