PRESIDENT DICKEY DELIVERED the convocation address November 8 at the 34th annual meeting of the Amherst College Alumni Council at Amherst. His address followed his acceptance of an honorary Doctor of Laws degree from Dr. Charles W. Cole, president of Amherst. Dr. Cole's citation:

"Son of Dartmouth in the Class of 1929, and graduate of the Law School of Harvard University in 1932. Your practice of Law in the State of Massachusetts was repeatedly interrupted by the call of Public Service. In a number of posts in the State Department and under the Coordinator of Inter-American Affairs, you strove, in peace and in war, to better the relations of our country with other nations. Dartmouth called you to its presidency in 1945 as a leader who could not only administer the College and develop its educational program but also inspire the undergraduates with the urgency of preparing themselves to serve their nation and mankind.

"By virtue of the authority vested in me by the Board of Trustees of Amherst College, I confer upon you the Degree of Doctor of Laws."

THE SPECIAL DAY was not allowed to spoil Mr. Hopkins' round of golf with his favorite partner. Professor Emeritus Charles A. Proctor '00.
