WE BEGIN this time on a note of tragedy as we pay tribute to Professor Herman Feldman whose untimely death occurred after this column went to press last month. We are still so stunned from the shock of this great loss to the School that we are only beginning to realize its extent both personally and professionally. All will remember him as a sympathetic friend, an original scholar, and a great teacher. Only this word is included here in view of the more adequate tribute accorded him at another place in this issue.

Professors Ross Stagner and Henry L. Duncombe Jr. are carrying on Professor Feldman's work in the personnel relations field during the current semester. Professor Stagner is a member of the Psychology Department and has offered work in the field of personnel relations for a number of years. Both men have worked with Professor Feldman in offering the course in past years and are, therefore, acquainted with his methods, techniques, and content.

Dean Olsen was in Chicago on October 21 as a member of the Committee on Standards of the American Association of Collegiate Schools of Business.

Professor Frey attended the Distribution Conference held in Boston on October 20-22.

Professor Hill attended the New England Purchasing Conference held in Springfield, Mass., on November 6.

The officers of the second-year Clearing House were elected recently. The men chosen and their positions are as follows: President— R. P. Fisher, Vice President—A. I. Bildner, Secretary—G. J. Ferrarese, Treasurer—M. H. Lewis, and Social Chairman—R. F. Pierce Jr.

William Portman T'47 writes that he has taken a job with Procter & Gamble in Cincinnati. "Bill" is in the product service department and is enthusiastic about his work.

Richard W. Bowlen T'3l, assistant to the comptroller, Brown and Sharp Manufacturing Company, Providence, R. 1., visited us over the Brown game. Dick reported a good time and much pleasure over the Dartmouth victory.

Marvin L. Frederick D'ls, who formerly visited the College recruiting for General Electric, called on us the other day and described the personnel and training work he is now directing for Peat, Marwick, Mitchell & Company, Certified Public Accountants. We enjoyed seeing him and renewing our very profitable contacts with him.

H. Dwight Meader T'4l lectured at the School on October 18 on the subject, "Budgeting in the General Electric Company." Dwight is Budget Administrator at the General Electric division in Lynn, Mass.

William Lee T'47 writes that he has formed a partnership, "Elliott & Lee" which will deal in real estate, mortgage loans, and general insurance in Amarillo, Texas.

Marcel Richard T'47 informs us that he has accepted a position with the Springfield, Mass., branch of Scovell, Wellington & Company of Boston.

Charles V. Raymond T'gi has accepted a position with Builders Iron Foundry in Providence.

Allen S. Russell T'47 is employed by The Business News Publishing Company in Detroit. He is at present selling advertising space in The News, a publication in the field of air conditioning and refrigeration.

Richard M. Berlin T'47 is employed in the underwriting department of Connecticut Mutual Life Insurance Company, Hartford, Conn.

Bruce Stephens T'46 writes that he is now in the cost accounting department of Package Machinery Company, East Longmeadow, Mass.

Sam West T'47 writes that he started to work with the Tyler Fixture Corporation, Niles, Mich., on September 15. He is at present doing market research and other statistical work in connection with sales.

Charles Carleton T'42 paid us a visit recently. After leaving the service he resumed his old job with Pillsbury Flour Mills in Minneapolis. At present he is engaged in design and promotion of new products.

John F. Anderson T'34, president, John Anderson Company, Cleveland, has written a series of articles which will appear in the November, December, and January issues of the National Real Estate and Building Journal. They are entitled "Make Me an Offer" and deal with modern selling techniques in the real-estate field.

Albert Brown D' 24, Vice President in charge of Advertising and Merchandising, Best Foods, Inc., is president and executive head of the Association of National Advertisers.

W. P. Potter T'2l, Director of Advertising Operations at Eastman Kodak Company, was elected a vice-chairman of the same association at its October meeting.

Sumner D. Kilmarx T'23, Vice-President, Theo. Hofstatter & Company, interior decorators, New York City, and present head of the Greater New York chapter of the Tuck School Clearing House, paid us a visit recently. He now has a son in Dartmouth in the sophomore class. He reports that he has already been working on plans for the meeting of the Tuck School Clearing House in New York. You should be hearing about these plans shortly.

Other members of the Tuck family who have dropped in on us recently are: WilliamThompson T'26 of Lowell, Mass., former head of the Boston chapter of the Clearing House; Ralph Butler T'3o, who is assistant sales manager, Thayer, Inc., Gardner, Mass.; DudleyA. Wilson Jr. T'47, who is with International Telephone & Telegraph Corporation, New York City; and Richard C. Litchfield T'23, who is a partner of the firm, Abbott & Litchfield, Boston, manufacturers of canvas products.
