THE LARGEST ATTENDANCE of recent years featured the Annual Christmas Party of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of the Northwest Saturday, December 28, as 160 odd alumni, undergraduates home for the holidays and their guests threatened to exceed the capacity of the one available room at the Minikahda Club, Minneapolis.
The Christmas Party and June Picnic represent the only opportunities during the year for alumni and undergraduates to mix. Both groups certainly made the most of this occasion. To one elbowing his way through the close-packed din, representatives of the 23 Twin Cities undergraduates and alumni of recent classes, seemed to outnumber completely the "old-timers." It was swell to see the amount of interest on the part of the younger fellows.
A buffet lunch somehow got served in the melee, and enough space cleared on-the floor for the projection of two excellent reels of color movies of the Hanover scene, provided through the courtesy of Jim Vaughan. As al ways, pictures of the College stir nostalgic longing to return to the New Hampshire hills. The party closed thereafter in an atmosphere filled with Dartmouth spirit.
During the interval between Dartmouth Night and the Christmas Party this Alumni Association took much pride in a revolving loan fund, to be administered by the College, established by Mrs. James A. Vaughan and family in memory of James A. Vaughan '05. The purpose of the fund is to aid primarily students from this area. The Association's former scholarship fund, also recently turned over to the College for administration, has been combined with the Vaughan Memorial which is open to further contributions. It is hoped that in time the total sum will increase sufficiently to make possible the establishment of a Regional Scholarship for the Northwest.
The Minneapolis gang recently enjoyed entertaining a visiting Dartmouth graduate active in Boston Alumni circles—Cedric Foster '24 of Station WMAC, Boston, a Coast to Coast news commentator on the Yankee and Mutual Networks. Their welcoming committee was somewhat taken aback to be completely outnumbered at the depot by a large delegation of enthusiastic Greeks anxious to demonstrate their appreciation of Foster's aid to Greek Relief.
Next important meeting is the Annual Banquet in March. In the meanwhile, bimonthly luncheons will continue to function as usual at the St. Paul Athletic Club, St. Paul, and Donaldson's Tea Room, Minneapolis.
