ENCOURAGED BY A CLEAR, hot afternoon and the prospects for fun offered by any Dartmouth gathering, 85 Alumni followed the green and white D road markers June 27th to the pleasant Minnesota farm home of Henry Thrall '06 for a 1946 renewal of the annual picnic of the Dartmouth Alumni Association of the Northwest.... largest picnic attendence of record and an auspicious beginning for the new administration of President Wood Foster '33.
The heat abated rapidly in an atmosphere of ice cold keg beer provided by Pink Ankeny '21 and Louis Gluek '22, as picnic chairman Eddie Lynch '23 got his program under way with a fast ball game featured by the always popular decisions of Umpire Art Dunning '11. Horseshoes followed for some, loafing on the broad verandah for others and a few classes rounded up recruits for pictures, '41 topping the list with a delegation of 13 men. It was good to see the large turnout of men from recent classes who have been missed during the war years.
Later on, the alumni consumed a swell buffet supper under the trees on the lawn as the picnic wore on into a summer evening as fine as a June night in Hanover. Finally, program committee chairman Don Norton '41 and his followers settled down to songs while the less energetic began to drift off to their cars, concluding another picnic and another demonstration of Dartmouth spirit in the Northwest.
NORTH WESTERNERS HAVE AN OUTING. The Northwest Association holds its annual picnic at the farm of Henry Thrall '06 late in June. Above right.
