The Indians opened the defense of their Ivy League championship in uninspiring fashion by dropping the initial encounter to Princeton by the score of 40-36. Ahead a 2-20 at the half, the Green lost the game in the second half, during the first seven minutes of which they failed to score a single point. With big Aud Brindley back in the line-up but still far from his best physical shape, the Green intermittently controlled the backboard, only to lose control when Brindley retired on fouls early in the second period. With a total of 36 points scored by the Green, none of Coach Lampe's gladiators could have broken the League record. As it was, only forward Paul Campbell managed to break into double figures for 11 points and the high total of the evening for Dartmouth. With his eye not as sharp as it has been and with his premature exit from the game on personal fouls, Brindley managed to connect for one goal and two fouls for a total of 4 points. The rest of the starting five of Campbell, Leede, Brindley, Sullivan, and Coleman came in somewhere between these meager totals. In any terms, the Green was not precisely hot that night.
THEY WENT DOWN SHOOTING AS THESE PICTURES SHOW. Although Dartmouth lost this gome to California 55-46, the Indians were throwing them up there. At the left Paul Campbell goes high in the air for a shot as Joe Sullivan, left, comes racing across for the rebound and Captain Jim Coleman covers the backeourt. At the right, Ed Leede goes even higher for a one-hand push shot with Campbell underneath the basket this time ready to cover the rebound if necessary.
