The Memorial to Freddy Carroll has now gone out, and I am enclosing a few of the testimonials which we have received which I am sure you will all appreciate.

From Mary S. Carroll to Robert Burns, Norman Catharin, Harry Floyd, and Members of the Class of 1909:

"It is difficult for me to find words adequate to express my appreciation for the very lovely memorial you have had completed as a tribute to my dear husband. For the thought that prompted this wonderful tribute I am also deeply grateful.

"The beautifully bound book containing Fred's letters to us and "pictures will be one of my cherished possessions.

"My children and Fred's mother join me in thanking each member of the class of 1909 who had a part in this splendid memorial."

From Mary S. Carroll to Harry Floyd: "Would it be possible for me to get one of these books for Fred's mother and for my daughter Marion and also one for Bob. I, of course, will pay for these extra books. Let me know when you get a chance.

"I appreciated so much the interest you, Bob, and Norman took in this book, and it meant so much to me to have the three of you come out here and present it to me. I shall never forget your thoughtfulness and kindness. Please get in touch with me once in a while so that I can feel I am still part of '09."

From Harold G. Rugg, Ass't. Librarian, Dartmouth College Library:

"I am very grateful indeed to you for sending to the Library a copy of the book, F. A. C.A Distinguished Son of Dartmouth. We are, of course, very glad indeed to have this volume as you know we are attempting to build up as complete a collection as possible of material by and about the Alumni body. This volume will be catalogued for the Archives Room. I thank you on behalf of the Trustees of Dartmouth College."

The following was received from Mr. Walter S. Bucklin, President of the National Shawmut Bank, of which Freddy was vice president:

"I think it was a very gracious act on your part to deliver to me personally a copy of the beautiful Fred Carroll Memorial volume. In the hearts of Fred's fellow workers here in the Shawmut, this tribute will arouse two emotions: First, a high sense of pride in his sacrifice for the cause of humanity, and, second, profound sorrow at his loss. Such sentiments, I believe, will be shared not only by those who were privileged to be his friends and associates through his business years, but also by all Dartmouth alumni."

From Curtis M. Hilliard: "I have just received a Memorial for Freddy Carroll. This is a fitting tribute and a job well done by the Committee."

From Dr. Edward Meleney: "I have read with great pleasure and appreciation the letters of Freddy Carroll in the beautiful memorial volume. It makes one proud to have known him. If you have the opportunity will you pass on to Mrs. Carroll my sympathy and my feeling of satisfaction that he did such a grand job.

"As for news—my son Henry Jr. was married in October 1945 soon after returning from France. He was in a Troop Carrier wing of the A.A.F. His wife presented us with a granddaughter on December 1, 1946. Henry is with Eastern Airlines at the Raleigh-Durham Airport and will give special service to all '09'ers if they will declare themselves. Our second son, William, returned from Italy (via India) in November 1945. He had been through the Italian Campaign with the American Field Service Ambulance Corps. He is taking preveterinary studies at Rutgers, was married in December 1946.

"I am busy with the campaign to build a new Medical Center for New York. University between Bellevue Hospital and the United Nations Headquarters on First Avenue. My Department of Preventive Medicine is to establish an Institute of Industrial and Social Medicine. Outside my official duties I am still consultant to the Army, Veterans' Administration and U. S. Public Health Service on Tropical Diseases."

From C. Elbert Dole: "I thank you so much for sending me the tribute to our classmate, Freddy Carroll, which I shall certainly enjoy reading. Although I don't remember seeing him since we graduated, I have always been interested in accounts of what he was doing, as he took up banking, as I did.

"Think I will let my friend Frank Cory have the first chance at reading this book as he is now recovering from a severe hernia operation. It certainly was a nice idea to send it to the Baker Library at Hanover, where it will always be on file."
