A note from Jim Elleman reminiscing about his friendship with various classmates is worth excerpting. Commenting briefly on the loss of class leader Fred Stockwell Jim discusses in detail his association with Paul Parker. Paul, who was his roommate for three years, "was a close friend and outstanding man. I was in his wedding in 1947 and we had an active correspondence over the years. We didn't see each other face to face over the 50 years but we stayed close. Paul was a master letter writer with great humor and much human interest. Two things I always admired about Paul were his more than 70 years of loyalty to the Chicago Cubs—he even became a shareholder—and his love for the Big Sky Country of Montana." Jim goes on to comment briefly about "the famous 23 Leb. Street Gang, now reduced to four—George Munroe, Stan Skaug, Bill Seidman and me." He went on to express the hope to reune with his remaining mates at our 60th next year. Finally he reported attending a Brown/Dartmouth basketball game in Providence that did not remind him of an Ozzie Cowles team of the '40s! Speaking of reminiscing, my college roommate Bing Donaldson, for the second time in 51 years, played the best man role at my recent marriage to Louise John. Together with wife Anne they hosted a memorable dinner for us also. I am adjusting to a slightly altered lifestyle working under the direction of Louise as an usher at Cincinnati's Music Hall (getting a little culture!). We expect to be back on Cape Cod, however, in time to host the '43 minireunion June 13. Another date to remember is the weekend of September 27-29, our fall mini in Hanover (the football opposition—New Hampshire). A recent note from gift planning chairman Bob Barnum carried this message: "During the first half of fiscal 2002 a classmate added $19,494.72 to an existing retained income plan, the principal of which will eventually benefit the arts and sciences department at Dartmouth." Remember, Bob Barnum or JohnKeefe are ready to help with tax saving suggestions with respect to any college giving you may contemplate. Stay well!
