In announcing the award of the "best club secretary" prize this year to Donald H. C. MacKay '20 of the Chicago Alumni Association, the following citation was read at the dinner of class and club officers in Hanover on May 17:
Over a period of years Donald H. C. MacKay '20 has managed Dartmouth alumni affairs in Chicago from the key position of secretary of the Alumni Association there. No task has been too minor to receive his attention if in any way connected with the College, and none too big for him to tackle. In recognition of his outstanding services he has been elected president of the Chicago Alumni Association for next year.
Under Don MacKay's guidance the Chicago alumni have strengthened old activities and added new ones until there isn't a dull moment for Dartmouth folks in that area. Starting in September the Chicago Club entertains undergraduates, new freshmen, and their fathers before they leave for Hanover.... a highlight of the Christmas holiday season is a party for alumni and their wives and girl friends .... a Christmas vacation luncheon is held for undergraduates and their fathers .... the annual dinner with a speaker from the College is attended by several hundred alumni .... last year they collected more than $2,000 in Chicago for their substantial local scholarship fund .... play-by-play returns are received for major football games .... a vocational committee is active in placing Dartmouth men on jobs .... younger alumni are brought into all activities and are given committee and officer spots .... publicity for the College is good through Don MacKay's efforts with Chicago papers .... an up- to-date directory for the thousand Dartmouth men in Chicago is being published.... 12 to 18 mailings a year go out to the complete list .... luncheons held every Monday are well attended.
This program is something for every Dartmouth alumni group to shoot at. We are happy to send Don MacKay a copy of the Ticknor Print and to hail him as Dartmouth's Club Secretary ofthe Year.
