Last spring Coach Lupien's team duplicated its 18-10 record of the year before, and a 7-2 summary in the EIBL brought his club the conference title. The Indians promise to be strong again this season, but are plagued with a critical shortage of experienced pitchers, similar to last year. Dolph Highmark, 4-3 last spring, is the only letterman on the pitching staff. He'll be backed by several upperclassmen, and hurler Chuck Seelbach, 5-0 on last year's Pea Green. The catcher's spot is still up for grabs, but Captain Bob Thomas will be at first, with Ail-American Gene Ryzewicz set at second. Gene hit .374 and Thomas .323 last season. At third junior Dale Achenbach has the upper hand to date, with sophomore Bob Mlakar firmly entrenched at shortstop for graduated All-League Mickey Beard. Outfielders include senior John Blair in left and sophomores Steve Dagirmanjian, Bruce Saylor, and Greg Pickering sharing center and right. Pickering, a powerful lefty who will see action on the mound as well, batted .459 as a freshman.
