Meanwhile, Karl Michael's varsity swimming team kept the winning habit very much alive in the January competition. There was every expectation that the Green swimmers would arrive in New Haven February 18 undefeated to take on a formidable Yale team.

Biggest opponent before that time was Harvard, after an easy Dartmouth victory 78-17 over Brown. However, Dartmouth had an easy afternoon of it with Harvard, winning 57-38 and taking first place in 8 of the 11 meet events. The victory was the first over a Harvard swimming team since 1958. Allan Petersen '69, Bryam, Conn., broke both varsity and College records with times of 2:03.2 in the 200 yard individual medley and 2:05.5 in the 200-yard backstroke.

By season's end Michael expected several new College and pool records to be established. Among the most likely record-breakers is the 400-yard medley relay team composed of Petersen, backstroke; Mike Harvey '69, breaststroke; Morgan Allsup '69, butterfly; and Captain Tony Dalrymple '67, freestyle.

The team came within a second of the 3:38:72 College and pool record during the Brown meet, and observers commented that the swimmers appeared far from demonstrating their maximum effort.

The freshman swimming team, under Coach Ron Keenhold, also was winning everything in sight so far. Captain of the team is Dave Johnson of Kenmore, N. Y., a breaststroker. As, of mid-January Keenhold had a 24-meet victory streak going over a three-year period.
