Our Twentieth is just around the corner (a year late under the new reunion plan) and it's not too early to start making your plans so that you will be in Hanover in mid-June. The dates and details will come at a later time from Red Edgar and his Reunion Committee.
We are working on a program of pre-Reunion dinners wherever '28ers are located. The Class officers have authorized the publication of a Class Directory and it will be mailed as soon as I can get the information together. In this connection, it will be most helpful if those of you who receive letters from me will answer them promptly.
In order to increase the number of issues of the '28 Campaigner in this Reunion year, Johnny Neary, the sage of Hamilton, Mass., has been drafted to assist Editor Jack Herpel.
Continuing our series of pictures of '28 gettogethers, we give you this month the adjoining photograph of the select group which met at the Concord (Mass.) Country Club on Sept. 29. We know you want those good-looking girls identified, so here is the complete line-up: L. to R., Bottom—Craig- Haines, RedEdgar, Monk Davenport; 2nd row—BeccaSreenan, Fran Kenerson, Gladys Milton, PearlPhelan, Chili Edgar. Standing—Johnny Nixon,Ethel Nixon, Hank Milton, Virginia Davenport, Jack Kenerson, Eleanor Haines, Bill Sreenan, Jack Phelan.
We're indebted to Bill Sreenan for the picture and also for the following letter:
"Jack Kenerson came up with the idea of the get-together and he really worked hard, with his customary enthusiasm. Most of us haven't seen much of each other since 1928 (particularly yours truly) and relatively few of us had previously had the privilege of meeting the grand wives in this particular group.
"Liquor there was, for those who wanted it. A delicious buffet supper came up at just the right time and after, well, we just sat around and got re-acquainted. There is no doubt that everyone enjoyed the party tremendously. So much so that, over clinked glasses, we made a solemn pledge to carry on with the idea at least two or three times a year. Hank Milton was unanimously elected to plan and arrange for the next one sometime during the winter.
"As for the writer, I particularly enjoyed myself, as did Becca. I have been out of circula tion for so long, first with the long illness that tied me down for better than five years, and, to top it off, an automobile accident last year that jammed up a leg, that it did seem wonderful to feel that I was a part of things again.
"Monk Davenport's son is back at Dartmouth after a tour of duty in service—and Monk is justifiably proud of the fact."
Three '28 sons are now at Dartmouth: Carleton Davenport Jr. '49, Dick McSorley '50, and Donald Klinck '51. We hope one or more got in this Fall, but haven't heard the good news yet. (Wish you would all remember to notify me when your son is accepted for Dartmouth and not wait for me to discover it months later.)
From sons-in-college let's jump to births: Ed and Julia Abbott announce the arrival of a " seven pound, twelve ounce squalling baby girl, Elizabeth Grace, on September 24."
Ed has resigned as Radio Director with the John W. Shaw agency in Chicago to accept a position with Foote, Cone & Belding. He says, "I've seen very , few of the '2Bers since I was married last year. Saw Chuck Davis not long ago. I have lunch once in a while with BillWhaley, which reminds me that Bunny, Bill's wife, called Julie tonight and said they'd be over to show us all about the raising of children. That will be fine with us because they can start from scratch and anything they tell us will be news. By the way, next Tuesday Bill and Bunny celebrate their thirteenth anniversary and Whaley still has hair, too!
"I'm very glad you paid tribute to Bill Morton for his swell work during the Alumni Fund drive. He and all the rest of you eastern-type fellas deserve much credit for an outstanding job."
