The '28-'29 reunion in Heidelberg was held - as scheduled except that Myles and Peggy Lane were a couple of days late. The six Skinners arrived a day early and enjoyed a personally conducted tour of Heidelberg and environs by Larry and Mary Lougee and a cook-out at their home. Milt and Peggy Hoefle and their son, Frank '57, were met when they got off the Rhine steamer and the reunion was on. When we had to push on to Switzerland, the Lougees and Hoefles drove over to Stuttgart, visiting the TV Tower, Rubble Mountain and returning via the Neckar Valley. Myles and Peggy arrived a couple days late but got the same VIP treatment from the Lougees.
The Skinner Safari, about which some of our friends were frankly-skeptical, was a lot of fun and very educational. We took our own station wagon with us on the Queen Elizabeth (Bill and Greta Cogswell showed up on a steaming hot day to see us off) and drove through England, Scotland, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, France and Spain. The festival at Pamplona was particularly colorful. At one bullfight we sat right behind "Papa" Hemingway. The bullfight the next day was memorable in that a pickpocket got my wallet but I chased and caught him and after a tussle got my wallet back intact. Fortunately I was bigger than he was! The kids were full of admiration for Dad, who had never shown any promise as a sprinter or wrestler.
