FEBRUARY 20 SAW THE HOUSTON CLUB gathered for a pleasant dinner meeting at the Ship Ahoy Restaurant. Sixteen helpings of broiled red snapper and lemon chiffon pie were stowed amidships where they helped to counteract the effect of previous over-enthusiastic splicing of the main brace. Incidentally, a long splice was fortunately placed on the treasury, which worked an effect comparable to the raising of the Normandie, or other famous salvage operations we have read about in Saturday Evening Post.
Captain Wendell Phillips '28 presided in the wardroom. Admiral Dwight Edson '18 had the situation well in hand with remarks anent his recent visit to Hanover and the light spots and dark corners of chaperoning at his son's fraternity party. We enjoyed his talk and the fine color films of Hanover 1947.
Coming back from the head we almost busted into the Captain's cabin by mistake and were frowned on by some BRAID.
The whole damn thing was so nautical we expected the quartermaster to tap us any time with the legend, "Time for YOUR watch!"
Present were: Dwight Edson 'lB, Fred Heitmann '41, John Hoyt '34, George Jacob '39, H. J. McLellan '16, George Murphy '41, Harrison L. Nichols '98, B. Wendell Phillips '28, Henry Safford '40, Bill Thaxton '43, Cy Worth '29, Martin Zinn '31, Steve Chase '25, and Gaylord Fauntleroy '28.
Guests were Dr. Green and son, James, a prospective freshman in the Class of '52.
