DEAN PUDGE NEIDLINGER told members of the Worcester County Dartmouth Club at their annual meeting at the Svea Gille, Shrewsbury, Mass., April 28, that private, endowed educational institutions like Dartmouth must receive greater voluntary financial support from the public if they are to continue to exist. People must be convinced that private education is absolutely necessary for the future of the country, he said.
President Benjamin W. Ayres '2O presided. Elected for the coming year were: president, Frank L. Harrington '24; vice-presidents, Kenneth W. Spalding '20 and Francis X. Reilly Jr. '38; secretary, Donald G. Mix '21; associate secretary and publicity director, Donald P. Cole '19; treasurer, Harry P. Midgley Jr. '4O; and executive committee, officers, Mr. Ayres and Sherman Baldwin '23, C. Lane Goss '25, Joseph G. Byram '32 and Robert O. Grunditz '45. Raymond F. Russell '15 headed the nominating committee.
Bob Hage '35, executive secretary of the Hopkins Center Project, explained the project in detail, using the large model which he has exhibited to Dartmouth alumni all over the country. A colored sound movie, "Dartmouth 1947," was shown. Eighty-five members and guests enjoyed themselves, exhibiting healthy Dartmouth appetites at a smorgasbord dinner.
Members are continuing to hold informal weekly lunches at Putnam and Thurston's, Mechanic Street, Tuesdays at 12:15.
