"Spoke" Kennedy passed away on July 22 at his home in Hollywood, Calif. "Spoke" came to college from Spokane, Wash., which gave him his nickname. In business in St. Paul for many years, he went to California about 25 years ago. He is survived by his wife and a daughter, Sally Ann.
George Baine passed away on August 8 at Red Bank, N. J. He entered the hospital on June 20, 1948, and had a very serious operation on July 1. Burial was at Berlin, Mass. George is survived by his wife, two sons, George Jr. '4l of Hartford and Jack P. Baine, and two grandsons.
Under the quarter-backing of Art Lewis, 122 members of the class, the largest number of givers in many years, contributed $4991.50 to the Alumni Fund. Art, class agent for many years and who has done a grand job, was assisted this year by Currier, Squier, Stickney,Symmes and Treadway.
Gardner Marion, Alex Miller, Mike Stearns and the Class Notes Editor, virile young men of the graduating class of 41 years ago, were in Hanover in June to see their sons graduate. Their pride in having sons in the graduating class was a little dimmed by finding "Jigger"Pender '97 also in town to see his son graduate. John Stearns was a class day speaker. He enters Harvard Law School this fall. The Class Notes Editor, Lela and Bill Jr. stayed in town the following week and the C. N. E. attended the Alumni Council meeting. Jack Everett spent a night at the Inn that week. His son graduated from Cornell Law School this spring.
The Percy Gleasons, Art Rotch, Stan Tappan and Harry Harriman turned up at the end of the week to watch 1909 and the other reuning classes. The Gleasons had just attended commencement at the Univ. of N. H., where their son graduated. His engagement to a Vermont girl had just been announced.
The race between Larry Tread-way and ArtWyman as to who is the leading grandfather in the class has had another photo finish. Ethan Greenwood Treadway was born to Mr. and Mrs. David F. Treadway at the .Hartford Hospital on June 14. This celebration of Flag Day by the Treadways gave Treadway eight grandsons and three granddaughters for whom to run up the flag at the Treadway Inns in Mass., Vt., N. H., N. Y. and Fla. (adv.) Art Wyman came back with a belated report that Miss Laurie Wyman was born on Tuesday, May 31. To substantiate his claim, Art sent along a group picture of his eleven grandchildren.
We are indebted to Art Lewis for a copy of the Brazil Herald published in Rio de Janeiro which contains an article with a two column heading "Knox Returns to Brazil as Gulf Cos. Consultant." The story complete with photograph of the General, concludes with the paragraph that
"Mr. Knox is well known in Brazil and has a host of friends in the Brazilian, British and American communities, who are glad to welcome him back to Brazil."
Andrew Nichols has been obliged to retire from his work in Austin High School, Chicago, due to ill health, after 36 years of service in the school.
Artie Soule, the Squiers, Jack Everett and his sister, the Gleasons, Airs. Joe Donahue and Mrs. Dick Lunt attended Dartmouth Night at the Boston Pops in May. Mrs. Gleason has been president of the Dartmouth Woman's Club of Boston this year.
Larry Symmes' fourth grandchild, Marilyn Symmes, daughter of Larry Jr. '38 and his English wife, arrived in California on May 13. Already having three grandsons, Grandfather Larry is delighted now to have a grand- daughter.
Tat Badger took a trip to Europe this spring.
Park Stickney and the Class Notes Editor attended the annual Dartmouth picnic at Louie Leverone's farm at Highland Park in August.
