Plainfield, N. J., thinks highly of Carlyle W. Crane '35, youngest mayor in its history. The Plainfield Junior Chamber of Commerce recently named him "Man of the Year" for his outstanding activities in civic, welfare and social fields and for "being the young man who has done most for Plainfield." The selection coincided with the naming of national Young Men of the Year and was marked by a dinner at the Park Hotel, February 10.
Mayor Crane took office January i after serving on the Common Council since 1946, first as an appointee and then as an elected member. He has been active in the YMCA and Council of Social Agencies, is superintendent of the First Park Baptist Sunday School and an active member of the Junior Chamber 0of Commerce, and also serves on other civic and welfare groups. A partner in the law firm of Winans, Crane and Crane, he took his LL.B. degree at Yale Law School in 1938 after graduating from Dartmouth with Phi Beta Kappa honors, and later served with the F.B.1.
Mayor Crane was married in 1939 to the former Marjorie Luella Fountain. They have two sons, Douglas, 8, and Carlyle Jr., 6, and a daughter, Cynthia, U/2.
