Another sport to get away to a slow start because of weather conditions is tennis. The netmen had but a few days of in door workouts before leaving on their southern trip during vacation. The first two meets were against one of the nation's best teams, William and Mary, and Dartmouth failed to get a point in either contest. Next stop was a meet with Georgetown in Washington and the Hoyas were defeated, 6-3, in a surprising victory. Encouraged by this triumph, the team moved on to Navy and barely failed to upset die Middies in a very close match. The score was 5-4, and Coach Red Hoehn was very encouraged by the team's showing on this tour. Tennis demands a good deal of practice and the team's efforts against opponents who had a month or more of practice bodes well for the future.
Hoehn's team is led by Captain Arnold Kramer and includes veteran performers Peter Irving, Robert Jordan, Dave Kurr, James Myers, Bertram Rodman, Parke Taylor, Bill Dey and Ismar Stahl. Another fine player is Bill Gahagen, a member of the class of '35 who is completing his senior year after a long stretch away from school. Sophomore hopefuls include Joe Welch, last year's freshman captain, Paul Simel and Jeffrey Hart. All are promising players and with a little experience behind them they may dislodge one or more of the veterans from the starting team.
