ONE of the most successful of the annual meetings of alumni officers in Hanover was held May 6 and 7 with a total of 156 class and club secretaries, class treasurers, class agents and class memorial fund chairmen in attendance. A feature 0f the two-day affair was a joint dinner Friday evening in the Colonial Room of Thayer Hall. Speakers were Prof. Allen R Foley '20 of the History Department who gave one of his talks on Vermont humor; Sigurd S. Larmon '14, a member of the Board of Trustees, who discussed future Dartmouth needs; Raymond J. Rasenberger '49, president of the Undergraduate Council, who reported on student activities; and President Dickey, who outlined the financial problems facing the independent liberal arts colleges.
Announcement was made by Sidney C. Hayward '26, Secretary of the College, at the joint dinner of the winners of the various alumni officers' awards. Harold P. Hinman 'lO was honored as the best class secretary of the year; Norman Russell 'O6 was named the best class treasurer; and William H. Perry '2l of Boston won the best club secretary award. Alex J. McFarland '3O, president of the Dartmouth Secretaries Association, presided and Rev. Charles C. Merrill '94 gave the invocation. Others at the head table were Halsey C. Edgerton 'O6, who retires this month as Treasurer of the College; John R. Mason 'l5, chairman of the 1949 Alumni Fund Committee; Rufus L. Sisson 'l4, president of the Class Treasurers Association; Richard Ward 'Ol, president of the Class Agents Association; and Alfred E. Watson 'B3, who at 92 was the oldest class officer present. Songs were provided by the Dartmouth Glee Club Quartet.
