Coach Tom Dent's lacrossemen came through as expected and won their third straight New England League championship by whipping M.I.T., New Hampshire, Yale, Harvard, Tufts and Williams in succession. This gave Dent's lads a record of three consecutive years without a defeat in league play. Overall, Dartmouth downed ten of their eleven rivals this season, losing only to Syracuse's powerhouse. In addition to the above-named teams the Big Green drubbed Manhasset A. C., Union, Cornell and Hobart in non-league affairs.
Two of the league contests were close. Yale was beaten g-8 after an uphill fight and Williams fell, 12-10, in the year's last game. This encounter proved to be a dingdong battle, with Williams moving into an early lead and Dartmouth again having to come from behind to win.
Walt Fisher of New Canaan, Conn., was chosen by his teammates to succeed Ail-American Don Scully as captain of the team next year. Fisher, a burly defenseman who has been an Indian standout for three years, is called "one of the very best defense players in the country" by his coach.
Scully and sophomore ace Haviland Smith paced the team in scoring for the season, with 31 goals apiece. Close behind were Hammy Gates, 30 goals; Bob Fiertz 27, Jack Giegerich ao and Jim Ruch 14. Scully, Ruch and Gus Farnsworth were the only seniors on the team and although these veterans will be sorely missed next year, Coach Dent should again field a strong team.
