I am sorry to report that Classmate JohnHayes is not improving in health as we had all hoped he would. I understand that he is not suffering physical pain but is quite troubled in mind and unhappy. The following letter, dictated by John to his housekeeper, which I received recently, tells the story, I think:

"Was pleased to receive your letter. Wish I could say that I was feeling better but I think my condition remains about the same; feel better on some days than on others.

"Now in regard to your coming down to see me, I think it best that you defer your visit until I feel better able to see you. Will later let you know about this."

"H. Dan" Watson recently called on Classmate Hayes and reports he found John quite miserable but very glad to see him nevertheless. He feels that John does enjoy letters from classmates.

"H. Dan" says of himself, "As to my own health, it is subject to wide variations. One day I am pretty fit, the next I am anything but. In general I find it best to keep close at home. At times I am in poor mood to make myself agreeable to anyone."

On Nov. 7, Mrs. Stevens and I will have occasion to celebrate our 50th Wedding Anniversary. Just how we shall do this is still undetermined. We know, however, that on that day we would like to have at our home all of the classmates and their sons, daughters, etc. who came to us on our 55 th class anniversary last June.
