Charlie Severance of the Brockway Motor Co. of Cortland, N. Y., came to Rockford several weeks ago on business. He gave the Class Notes Editor a ring as he was approaching the end of his work at the Rockford plant upon which he was calling. When Charlie announced who he was on the telephone the C.N.E. obtained the right answer when he asked the man on the other end of the line if he was the Charlie Severance who used to throw a slow wide out curve. Charlie conceded he was that individual. He came over and we had a most enjoyable visit of more than an hour before it was necessary for him to leave for his train. The calls of members of the class on the Editor are so infrequent that Charlie's appearance was greatly enjoyed. It Charlie turns up to call on anyone else in the class, a little time can be saved in the preliminaries if it is made a matter of record that Charlie's first choice is rye.
Close on the heels of Charlie's call came one from Nat Burleigh '11 of the Tuck school Secretary and Class Notes Editor of his class. Nat is taking a Sabbatical year and he and his bride of last summer were on a leisurely motor trip with visits to 1911 men, after which they expect to spend the winter Florida.
Lela and the C.N.E. and Bill Jr. '49 went to Detroit and Ann Arbor for the Dartmouth Pow Wow and the Michigan-Dartmouth game on October 7, as predicted a month ago. Mary and her husband, who are living at Flint, joined them at the game.
Roger Hill turned up for the cocktail party and dinner on Friday night and we sat at the same table at the dinner, attended by 500 of the Dartmouths. We were unable to locate Park Stickney and Herbie Mitchell who had predicted they would attend. Coming out of the game we saw the tall Robinsons from Des Moines. We learned from Charlie Severance that he had also been among the 75,000 spectators who saw the Dartmouth team give a much better account of itself than the score indicated. President John Dickey and Al Foley were the speakers at the dinner.
