Additional Gifts Made To Dartmouth Library
December 1950

A RECENT gift to Baker Library which received a warm welcome was the manuscript of Coniston, by Winston Churchill, the American author. A political story with the setting in New Hampshire, the novel has enjoyed a popularity of long standing.

Besides giving the manuscript of Coniston, the three children of Mr. Churchill turned over to the Library some two dozen manuscripts and typescripts, among them Modern Chronicle, Mr. Crewe's Career, three volumes of his letters, and other material. Except for a few items, the heirs gave to Baker all the Winston Churchill manuscripts in their possession.

The Library's growing collection of fine or interesting volumes has also been augmented by the gift of fifty of the Peter Pauper Press publications. Donated by the owners of the press, Peter and Edna Bielenson, these reprints of the classics are famous among book collectors for decorative bindings and their reasonable cost.
