While the enthusiastic residents of Hanover gathered in Webster the evening of October 20th to celebrate Dartmouth Night, 27 equally eager alumni met at the Blackstone to do justice to the occasion. The meeting this year was made unusually effective by the playing of a 20-minute recording cut in Hanover a few days earlier. The cheering sounds of Baker chimes pealing out "Dartmouth's in Town Again", the band leading the undergraduates up Dartmouth row, the ringing "Go-o-o Dartmouth", familiar numbers by the Glee Club, and salutations by President Dickey, Tuss McLaughry and Paul Staley, all commanded silent attention. This correspondent could not help but take special note of rapt expressions of almost awed reminiscence as thoughts journeyed back to years past—some but a few, others many. Regardless of the years, however, a common spirit was very evident.

This recording was the final highlight of the evening. Earlier Charlie Armes '34, chairman of the schools committee, briefed us on a program for the coming year designed to crowd the class of '55 with top caliber applicants from this area. This is a plan which merits everyone's support. Dick Koester '43 announced with regret the withdrawal from our midst of Hal Hastings '00. Hal, retiring to a farm in Connecticut, has unquestionably been one of the greatest assets any alumni club could seek. His absence now, after so many years, will be strange indeed. Good luck, Hal.

A list of those attending the meeting includes Al Barrett '44, George Bingham '19, Colin Churchill '34, Leonard Dunn, Matt Fenton '49, Bill Grant '19, Mac Grant '50, Art Harrison V-12, Bob Hazard '29, Herb Heston '34, Bib Hudgins '26, Doug Kelly '32, Art Lund '27, Don Mason '13, Bill McKnight '37, Jud McCarthy '26, Bob Moyer '43, George Parkhurst '30, Ed Pierce '41, Dud Richards '39, Bill Scott '42, and Lyman Whittaker '42.
