The devotees of this department's brand of fluff will miss their usually generous ration this month. The top brass has made its wishes unmistakably clear. "This is not a request to skip notes entirely," their ultimatum reads, "but to state things more concisely than is your custom, to weed out the inconsequential," etc. Their motives are the highest, however, since in the Fund Issue space is at a premium.

Speaking of the Fund, Sam Black was in town the week before Carnival for a precampaign strategy meeting. When we finally got him out of Colton's clutches we enjoyed a few hours with him laying linoleum at Bedlam Manor. He didn't say that he enjoyed it. On the other hand he didn't protest either. Our guess is that on his frequent trips to Hanover Sam's resistance has been worn down to the point where he takes the Manor as it comes. That, friends, is quite a test of a man's inner quality. It also gives you an idea of what a Class Agent sometimes lets himself in for, serendipity. We take no credit for this last word. We picked it up in the Great Issues course.

Word has come to us of the marriage on December 16 of H. Burling Naramore, now of Bridgeport, Conn., to Mrs. Janet Pratt Tully, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Auguste G. Pratt, of Englewood, N. J. The bride is a graduate of Smith.

Readers of the Satevepost noted in the January 7 issue an article "How You Can Survive an A-Bomb Blast" by Dick Gerstell. Recent announcements re the hydrogen bomb seem to make this data somewhat academic, but Dick may have a couple more up his sleeve (articles, we mean) on the HBomb. The one we're really looking forward to is his third, on the T-Bomb. It might give us an answer to the question "How miserable, just how miserable and wretched and scared can a man get exploring the dimensions of this future?"

Francis J. O'Toole, former rehabilitation chief in the VA office in Worcester, Mass., has been transferred to the Finance Division, VA, Boston.

Charles L. "Lopey" Rich was unanimously elected Chairman of the Board of Selectmen of Norwood, Mass. on January 24. Our hat is off to Lopey. From our observation of local government at the grass roots level in the Town of Hanover, and the continuous and varied pressures that some of our friencfe who have served as selectmen have been under, we have formed the highest opinion of the guy who not only stands up under it but emerges with the confidence and respect of his neighbors. A Congressman gets it from professional pressure boys, but a selectman gets it from his friends. Congratulations, Lopey!

Jus Stanley came east for an Alumni Council meeting in January and we spent a very pleasant evening working over stinkeroopinkeroos with him and Jean and John Meek at the Mecks. John, incidentally, reported the other day that he had recently run into John Scanlon while inspecting a large construction project near MIT in Cambridge. Scanlon is with the George P. Fuller Co., the construction firm handling this project.
