Since this issue of the MAGAZINE carries the annual Alumni Fund Report we have been asked to keep class notes on the brief side. Herewith, in brief, the news of the month:
CBS REALIGNS TOP EXECS; MORE CHORES FOR Ackerman—ln addition to being in charge of radio and TV network shows in Hollywood, Harry will look after all broadcasts of news, public affairs and special events originating there for the network.
Ransoms GREET HEIR AFTER NINE-YEAR WAlT—Muriel and Howie report arrival of John Howard last Aug. 24. Howie, Mid-Western sales representative for "Rainfair," travels Wisconsin, Minnesota, North and South Dakota, lives in Racine, plans on reunion.
LONG SILENCE BROKEN; Siskind LOCATED IN BOSTON—Biography of Paul Siskind, recently received, nets as follows:
After graduation worked as resident teacher in Bronx Boarding School, eventually moving on to N.Y.U. Law School in '3B, graduating in '4O. Was managing editor of Law Review, class valedictorian, and received fellowship for year's graduate work.
Drafted in '4l. Commissioned in '4a and married Leona Marks, Wellesley '4O, before leaving for West Coast and Pacific covering New Guinea, East Indies and Philippines. Had distinction of commanding, among other things, a detachment of WACS for brief but never dull period. Along with two other Dartmouth men, Paul formed a "Dartmouth-in-the-Jungle" Association, having, as a persistent guest, a Yale man who had the continuous effrontery to toast them with their own warm and scarce beer: "Not so Big —but awful Green!" Left the Army a Major early in '46, rejoined his wife in Boston, and entered law practise with an uncle in the firm of Siskind & Siskind. Shortly thereafter appointed lecturer at Boston University, made Assistant Prof, in '4B and full Professor of Law in '49. Judith Ann was born January 19, '47.
CRIME COURSE NOW OFFERED BY CRIMI- NOLOGIST—.Dr. Wood—Art Wood, instructor at Connecticut University, besides giving courses in criminology, is public relations officer between the school and various correctional institutions throughout Connecticut. Believing in correction rather than punishment, Dr. Wood plans to participate in the Conn. Prison Association and the Conn. Parole and Probation Association. He came to Connecticut from Bucknell and before that taught at Buffalo University. Art received his M.A. at Michigan in '36—his PhD at Wisconsin in '4l.
FOREIGN SERVICE MOVES Schnee—Al Schnee, Dept. of State Foreign Service Officer, has been transferred from Bern to Praha as Second Secretary and Consul. He joined the State Department in July, '39 and in '42 was appointed senior economic analyst in the Foreign Service Auxiliary and assigned to Buenos Aires. Later transferred to Montreal, he left in '44 to serve in the Marine Corps. After the war he returned to the State Department and was made executive officer on the Staff of the United States Minister to the Allied Mission to Observe the Greek Elections. In '47 he was commissioned in the Foreign Service and assigned to Bern. Which is where we started.
Brown WEDS JONES IN PARlS—Chuck Brown, recently sent to Germany by Newsweek as foreign correspondent, was married to Dorothy Elizabeth Jones on October 11 in Paris, France. They will make their home at Godesbergerstrasse 22, Bonn, Germany. Looks like there's more to this overseas service than news.
PHILADELPHIA WELCOMES Latimer—Bus Latimer, who has been working in Boston with the City Mortgage Dept. of John Hancock and living in Wellesley since the war, moved to Philadelphia February 1 to become a partner in the firm of Donald K. Redding, Inc., Mortgage Bankers. With him went his wife Nancy and two kids, Jay 41/2 and Lindsay 3.
Millard TAKES OVER CLOTHING BlZ—Upon the retirement of his father, with whom he had been associated for several years, Dick Millard took over their New York clothing business and is now top dog.
Halvorsen WRITES, MARRIES, HAS SON—Details are missing but recent reports have it that Dick Halvorsen has married and is now living in Nyack, N. Y., with his wife and new son. Dick is doing free-lance writing for magazines and radio.
McCarty FLICKS SWITCH, LIGHTS MINNEAPOLIS— LittIe Mac, Veep of Doug Leigh Spectaculars, journeyed recently to Minneapolis to light up the newest Leigh creation, a tremendous weather beacon atop the Northwestern National Bank. It signals the weather forecast to all farmers for miles around, and apparently meets the approval of BobbChaney's father who is chairman of the board. Returning by plane to Chicago, Mac rode with Al Koehler, who is a space salesman for Conde Nast's Glamour magazine, and, reportedly, 30 pounds heavier.
RECENTLY REPORTED MOVES: Ed Elsenhans from Philadelphia to 63 Joyce Rd., Eastchester, N. Y.
Phil Hemphill from St. Louis to 115 Reilly Rd., Wyoming, Ohio.
Ed Keane from Oakland, Calif., to Pioneer Folding Box Cos., Chicopee, Mass.
Irvin DEATH SADDENS CLASS—Jim Irvin, last reported in Caracas for the U.S. Rubber Cos., died after a prolonged illness in Dobbs Ferry, N. Y., on Jan. 22. Further details will be found in the back of this issue.
And so we close for another month. I know you'll be pleased to see the new record list of contributors to the Alumni Fund which follows. And don't forget the Fabulous Fifteenth Reunion coming up in June. See you there.
