This is the time that does not try my soul, since, as you will note below, the names of all the good and faithful who contributed to last year's Alumni Fund drive are listed. This means, by a process so simple that even I can appreciate it, that there is less room for class notes.
And thus it follows, friends, that I don't have to struggle as hard trying to manufacture my quota of froth out of the extremely lean pickings you ungraphic people send me. A corollary to this axiom, as I have so often pointed out, is that you, by the same token, don't have to put up with as much of me. It's called the March Axiom, or, We All Have Fun With The Fund.
Three items from the hurly-burly of business, from the scene of American Know-how, shall first occupy us. One mild day in this mildest of all winters last month a piece of dog-eared Associated Press copy rolled slowly through my erring mills. The gist of it, as far as it concerns us, is that my predecessor on these purple pages, Proctor H. Page Jr., was appointed production supervisor in charge of technical layout for the magazine, Vermont Life, an entertaining and professional job the Vermont Development Commission rolls off. Oddly enough, it is printed on the Lane Press in Burlington, Vt., an outfit where Mr. Page hangs his business hat as production assistant (doesn't he have the nicest titles, though?).
Then just yesterday another piece of copy waded through the impressive litter on my desk. It concerned one of the largest operators in these barren New England parts, where men usually run the bone and gristle. One David Heald, it said, was named a director of the Newport, N. H., Chamber of Commerce. It had better be a big chamber.
Then, from the ever-watchful C. Widmayer, ALUMNI MAG. editor, came a card this morning saying that Bob Rodgers, formerly with station WPIX in New York, one of those outfits that flicker television images before the tortured eyes of this nation, is now with the press department of NBC. He crosses the Hudson each day, one would assume, since he lives with wife Jeek and daughter Terri, seven, at 124 Beech St., Maywood, N. J. Dunno whether he crosses on a high frequency wave or not.
TIDBITS FROM THE TREASURER
A communique from California from our treasurer, M. Harriman, contains all sorts of useful tidbits. Jack himself reports ReedGriffith moving from Rochester, N. Y., to Birmingham, Mich., still selling for a tire concern, and a father about eight months ago of a daughter. He also says Eric Haessler has shaken thfe musty atmosphere of Harvard Law School and is practicing in Portland, Ore., with Hart, Spencer, McCullock, Rockwood and Davies.
He encloses notes from Bob Fisher (manager, hardware store, Minneapolis, two children, dog); Dave List (lawyer, Chi); RalphFalk (Baxter Laboratories, Morton Grove, 111., MBA, Michigan '5O, bachelor); BobBrower (salesman, Owens-Corning Fiberglass, Chi, bachelor); Dave Teahan (dentist, Holyoke). Two of these report other '42's as well—Mr. Falk; Pat Reilly (coffee business, New Orleans, married), Don Williamson (Chi, married, two children, past pres. Chi Jr. C of C); and Mr. Brower: Dr. Tony Susen and Moe Clark (both in vicinity of Evanston).
A birth announcement from 1799 Manor Drive, Union, N. J., records the arrival of JefErey Holmes, son of Bill and Karen H., Jan. 9, 1950, weight eight-seven. A N. Y.Herald Trib clip of December 9 tells of the engagement the preceding day at Calera, Ala., of Louise Marie Johnson to Lt. JohnWynne Ryan, USN. The wedding was set for December 27 at Washington, D. C.
And, for gracious sakes, a January 1 clip from the N. Y. Times telling of the engagement of Penelope Lancaster Holden to my old roommate John Jerome Teal Jr., the musk-ox man. No wedding date was set. The last clip is another Herald Trib one announcing the engagement of Joan Dean Blanchard to William H. Gray. Again, no hint about dates.
Finally three cards from the Hanover InnMr. and Mrs. Jack Hagy, Mr. and Mrs. Edward W. Massey and Dr. and Mrs. TonySusen, mentioned above.
There, now, wasn't that painless?
