Have you heard? There's going to be a party, strictly up to 1940 standards, beginning any time you say, reaching a peak June 16 to 18 in Hanover and tapering off from there. If you need a ride from New York, Cleveland, Chicago, Minneapolis, New Orleans, Hollywood or just Lebanon, it can be arranged.
There'll be quite a few coming early for the Hanover Holiday program, running from Monday, June 12. Scheduled are meetings mornings and evenings Monday through Thursday, conducted by outstanding faculty members. The chip is $5 per, family cordially invited. Dormitory rooms will be available at $2 a night per person. You can come for all or a portion of the Holiday program, you can also come early for reunion and take advantage of the low room rates, whether or not you attend the Holiday lectures.
Reunion committee activity is now centered on completing the regional drumbeater organization. The program has jelled at approximately that outlined here two months ago. Don't forget there'll be an election for the next Executive Committee and the nominating committee (Bud Hewitt, chairman) would like to hear from any or all of you.
The January MAGAZINE had a very welldone letter by Jack Preiss on Professor Knight's "pseudo-liberal" article in the December issue. Our comment is that Jack s letter could quite readily have been signed "1940" as representing the reaction of our late depression and/or early war class.
Class parties of the winter season seem to be restricted to our perennials, Boston and New York. The Boston group will hold the annual stag affair Wednesday, March 29 at Larry Herman's Eliot Lounge. The New Yorkers had a joint cocktail party with adjacent classes scheduled for February at the Dartmouth Club.
We still seem to be somewhat attractive as a group, enough, anyway, so that the following wish to affiliate: Tina Leslie Holbein, born to Powell and Dorothy Jan. 10 in Albany; Jim McElroy 111, born in Brussels in December; Jacqueline Herman, Larry's daughter since December 8; and Joan Weber of Glen Head, Long Island, engaged to Dr. BillMartin.
The last "we heard: Bud Scribner has transferred his career in banking to Washington; Bob Austin returned from the wilds of Cleveland to Boston, still with Statler; KenNewbert has a!so abandoned the west for Framingham, where he makes dough for Dennison (those little gummed thingamajigs); Dave Davenport is assistant manager at American Shipbuilding, Buffalo; Bud Schlivek is doing free lance photo-journalism in New York; Jim Buck is in research physics for Sylvania in New York and Herb Condit is in credit management with Western Electric in New York.
EDITOR'S NOTE: On January 27 the following news release was received in the ALUMNI MAGAZINE office and for obvious reasons was not passed along to the class secretary:
"John G. Moody, Burlington certified public accountant, has been appointed to the advisory committee of individual practitioners of the American Institute of Accountants, national professional society of CPAs. The appointment was announced at Institute headquarters in New York City. A graduate of Dartmouth College in 1940, he is a partner in the firm of Willis, Moody & Company. He is secretary-treasurer of the Vermont Society of CPAs, a member of the Rotary Club of Burlington, and secretary-chairman of the Dartmouth class of 1940."
