The walls of the Wellesley Country Club bulged the evening of February 16 as a near capacity crowd of 141 braves from the Charles River area assembled for their mid-winter Pow-Wow. The attendance, which broke all previous records, attracted Dartmouth alumni from Wellesley, Newton, Needham and seven adjacent communities.

Promptly at 6:30 our Wheelock Tavern, under the able guidance of Bob Fox '35 and Jack Lutz '38, got under way and for nearly an hour the crowd had ample opportunity for class reunions. A buffet dinner, with a chow line extending the length of the hall, was next on the program. Scarcely had the efficient Country Club staff a chance to clear the tables were we serenaded by an alumni octette under the direction of Bob Bankhart '37. This singing group which was organized last spring came through in top fashion and provided fine entertainment for the crowd.

The speaking activities of the evening were handled by Bill Cunningham '19, noted columnist, sports writer and radio commentator, and Roger S. Brown '45, Assistant to the Secretary of the College. Roger outlined the plans for the new regional scholarship drive and told in detail the steps which will be taken to put these plans into action. Alumni in this area are enthusiastic about this new undertaking and are strongly desirous of having a boy from this section enter Dartmouth under this new major project. In order that the club may start active participation Herbert S. Austin '14 has been appointed Chairman of the Scholarship Committee.

A tremendous Wah Hoo Wah echoed through the hall as President "Ed" Dewing '15 introduced the feature speaker of the evening, Bill Cunningham. Bill was more than equal to the occasion and gave a forceful hardhitting talk which delighted his large audience. Particularly pleasing to some of the older alumni were his reminiscences of the football battles of the roaring twenties and his intimate stories about "Gus" Sonnenberg '20, former Big Green gridiron luminary.

The officers of the club wish to announce at this time the coming appearance of the Dartmouth Glee Club on Friday evening, April 21. The concert, which played to a capacity house here last spring, will again be given at the Wellesley High School Auditorium, and all members of the club are urged to set aside this important date. Ticket applications will be in the mail about the time this goes to print.
