The first meeting of the 1950-51 season of the Charles River Dartmouth Alumni took place on the evening of December 7 at the Wellesley Country Club. More than 80 braves, including six candidates for admission to Dartmouth next September, were on hand to welcome Big Green line coach John Dell Isola on his initial visit to Wellesley.
The party got under way at seven, with a Wheelock Tavern, under the able direction of our genial vice president, Bob Fox '35. At the conclusion of a very successful Tavern hour the Country Club served us a delicious dinner. Singing by an alumni octette is always a favorite part of our program. Al Bryant '37 led this fine singing group which included J. B. Kennerson '28, V. E. Wentworth '36, F. R. Houlihan '36, R. C. Bankhart '37 and some others whose names escape me at the moment.
President Ed Dewing '15 then introduced our speaker of the evening and the crowd settled back to listen to a most entertaining talk by Dartmouth's football line coach John Dell Isola. John, whose ready wit and friendliness has made him a great favorite with his gridiron pupils, won his attentive audience with his timely descriptions of the games of the past season. He commented at length on the highlights of the games and answered questions given him by his audience relative to prospects for the '51 season. It was very encouraging to the committee to see a few new faces at this first meeting of the season and to have these men who were attending for the first time assure us they would plan to be regular members. Looking ahead for future meetings the committee has decided to hold its next gathering at the Wellesley Country Club some time early in March, with a possibility of arranging a party for both braves and squaws in either late April or early May.
It was voted that the vacancy caused by the resignation of Alexander J. Jardine '16 of Wellesley Hills be filled by the election of Vincent E. Wentworth '36 to the executive board.
