The golf team also had a prolonged trip into the Middle South, financed, like all the rest of the spring trips, strictly out of the pockets of the team members themselves. In the course of this trip, the boys were defeated by North Carolina and Navy and won from Georgetown, Pennsylvania, and Columbia. The traveling squad consisted of Duke Carey, Tom McMahon, Captain Bill Tarlow, Ed Eichler, Scotty Probasco, Mike Marchese, and Ted Remsen. The best overall record was scored by Scotty Probasco, who won four matches and lost only one. Tom McMahon provided the most striking comeback of the trip. Five down at the ninth in the Navy match, he came in in one under par to win his match one-up at the twentieth hole.
