As of May 1, we had only 92 contributors to the Alumni Fund and only 45% of our objec- tive in dollars, and as a class we stood in third place in the Green Derby. If I recall correctly, we promised Al Louer to win the Green Derby for him this year. If you haven't given as yetdo it now! If you have—maybe you can spare a little more. How about it?
A recent letter from Henry (Hank) Hartman informs us that he is now employed by Coliseum Films, Inc., as an assistant director and is on his way to Bologna, Italy, to film an epic entitled Teresa, dealing with the war in Northern Italy. Hank lives at 10539 Sunset Blvd. in Los Angeles with his wife Betsy whom he married in 1938. They have one son, Peter, who is now 10 years old. Hank says he sees Bobo Williams,Bus Heydt and Charlie Starrett from time to time and swaps lies with them about the good old days before they were all engaged in making (as he says) a few shadows wiggle on a white screen in a dark room. He says he has a lot of fun and refers casually to trips to India, Mexico and Europe—sounds like fun to us, too!
The Hanover Inn reports that among the distinguished notables enjoying its accommodations and cuisine during the latter part of March and the month of April, were one Thomas B. (Cupe) Minuse and his son David of Stony Brook, Long Island; Frank (Pete) Bailey, the dean of Kenyon College out in Gambier, Ohio, and Donald (Don) Hopkins from Upper Montclair, N. J.
Ken Weeks, the president and treasurer of The Walton Company of Hartford, Conn., has just completed a new home at 67 Waterside Lane in West Hartford. Business must be good! Last December Ken was appointed to a five- year term on the Board of Assessors of the Town of West Hartford and we'll bet the taxes on the new home aren't too high!
From Ed Hanlon (the best correspondent a secretary ever had) comes a clipping from the New York Times which announces that PerleyB. (Hank) Merry will join the Phillips-Jones Corporation, manufacturer of Van Heusen shirts, on May 1 in an executive merchandising capacity. As you probably know Hank has been vice-president in charge of merchandsing and sales at the B.V.D. Corporation for many years.
Also from Ed another clipping stating that one Marshall (Mike) McClintock was to be heard in New York via WMGM on April 11 on the Books on Trial program.
From the Clearing House Magazine comes word that Morse B. (Tiny) Lake has been promoted to comptroller at the Main Office of the Seattle First National Bank. Congratulations, Tiny!
We also learn from Ernie Early of the Class of '18 that the distinguished assistant headmaster of the Eaglebrook School in Deerfield, Mass., one Wadleigh (Wad) Woods, attended a dinner in March at the very swanky Hotel Flamingo in Miami Beach given by Bill Bemis of '18. These boys do get around !
James (Jim) Grady, the Assistant Group Sales Manager of Halsey, Stuart & Co., Inc. writes from his Bayside, L. I., home to inform us that he and Grace are looking forward to seeing Jim Jr. enter Dartmouth this fall. The other boy, John, is now a student at St. Vincent's Preparatory School in Latrobe, Pa.
Sid Hayward, that tireless traveler, was the featured speaker last month at the annual meeting of the Northwest Alumni Association at the Town and Country Club in St. Paul.
On April 19, at the Dartmouth Club in New York, Bob Stopford called a meeting of the Class Memorial Fund committee. Enjoying a delightful dinner and making plans for 1926 to surpass all other classes with respect to 25-year gifts were Sid Hay ward and his assistant Nick Sandoe '45, from Hanover; Hal Marshall from Sharon, Mass.; Reg Hanson from Hingham, Mass.; Jud McCarthy from Baltimore; BleekWilliams, Charlie Singleton and Chuck Webster from the New York area, and yours truly from Buffalo. All in all it was a grand meeting and a swell get-to-gether and I am convinced that with that committee as a nucleus, Bob will lead us in a very successful campaign.
From Bob comes a letter in which he mentions that he has recently heard from Montgomery(Monty) Golladay, who, we all thought, was with the American Legation in the Philippines. Monty arrived in New York on May Day and rushed on to Washington to be given what appears to be a year's assignment in San Francisco, after which he will probably be located in the State Department in Washington. That undoubtedly means that Monty will be back for our Twenty-fifth in '51!
Friday and Saturday, October 6 and 7, are the dates for the big Pow-Wow in Detroit upon the occasion of the Michigan game. This will be a real party and '26 should be well represented. For further details, contact your local club secretary or this department.
A week from to-day the annual secretaries meeting convenes in Hanover. It will be swell to get back again and I hope to be able to gain a lot of news to pass along to you in the next issue.
Don't forget that check for the Alumni Fund!
