Turning to other—though not necessarily greener—pastures, soccer coach Tommy Dent reports that he has seven lettermen returning for action this fall. These plus some reservists and a few top prospects from last season's frosh squad lead Tommy to predict an improvement over the 1950 record.

Heading the returning veterans is Captain Jack Hart at center half and Jackson Hall, a left fullback who walked away unanimously with All-American honors a year ago. Jack Fancher at left halfback, Jay Gintel at center half and John Rice at right halfback combine with Hart to form an outstanding, all-veteran halfback line which should be the main strength of the 1951 Indian team. Guss Hullman, an outstanding performer at the outside left position, and Clint Chin, a fast, sharp-shooting booter in the center forward position, complete the roster of returning lettermen.

Ail-American Jackson Hall, incidentally, is given a good chance by Dent to make the 1953 Olympic soccer squad. Tommy feels that Hall is probably the best soccer player the Green has ever had. He is in a good position to know as Tommy is the only college coach serving on the five-man Olympic soccer selection committee which will have to pick the players for the 1952 Olympic games.

With a good defensive halfback line, Coach Dent's problems rest with the forward line and at goal. Four sophomores- Bob Addis at center forward, Tom Corcoran at inside forward, Chuck Westcott at right fullback and Dick Trowbridge at halfback—have good potentialities but have yet to prove themselves in varsity competition. Chet Caswell, a junior also, will see action, while two other juniors, Sam O'Shea and Dave Florence, may help solve the goal tending problem.

If the sophomore forwards develop and the goal tending problem can be met, the Indian booters should have a top year. In any event, the Big Green soccer team holds more promise than their gridiron brothers.

VETERAN TACKLES back for this season include (I to r) George Rambour '52 of Columbus, Neb.; Vince Jones '52 of Long Beach, Calif.; and Bob Herr '52 of Westfield, N. J. A fourth letterman, Emery Pierson '53 of Quincy, Ill., was missing when this picture was taken at opening of practice.
