Another spring, another strong golf team and another good record under the tutelage of veteran pro Tom Keane is about the best way to sum up Dartmouth's 1958 golfers. Since last report the Big Green has downed Brown 6-1, Boston College 4-3, Middlebury 5-2, Army 4-3, Williams 5-2 and, most recently, Harvard 6-1, for a record to date of eleven wins and four defeats.
Captain Rod Frates played throughout the season at the number one spot, followed generally by Bruce McDonald, Harvey Bloom and Henry Milton — all letter-men — senior Dave Maryat, junior Nick Procino, and sophomores Roger Bentley and Bill Richmond.
In the Eastern Intercollegiate Golf Association and Ivy League Championships, held in late May at Yale, Dartmouth finished ninth. Captain Rod Frates was the only Dartmouth player to qualify by carding a 158 total for 36 holes. He lost in the semi-final round to John Stelus of Penn State who defeated him 3 and 2.
