An annual award for scholastic excellence
was inaugurated by the Dartmouth Club of Washington, D. C., in June when Richard Walker Fillius of St. Albans School for Boys was presented with a copy of The DartmouthBible, boxed in a slip case especially designed by Ray Nash, printing adviser to the College, and with a presentation nameplate also designed by Mr. Nash. Fillius, a member of the Third Form, was named the recipient by the St. Albans faculty.
Percy H. Russell Jr. '2Q of the Dartmouth Club of Washington made the presentation at the St. Albans commencement in the National Cathedral in Washington, June 2. Matt Jones '23, originator of the idea of giving TheDartmouth Bible to an outstanding Washington student, succeeded, with the cooperation of the College, in making a reality of this award, which will henceforth be an annual gift from the Washington alumni to a boy chosen by the St. Albans faculty, and perhaps later to students with high standing in other schools.
Interest in this type of award has been expressed by Dartmouth enrollment committees elsewhere, and it may well set a pattern for other Dartmouth clubs to follow.
