Cliff Michel Appointed 1930 Memorial Fund Chairman To Succeed Bud French Who Resigns.
The foregoing was the headline news emanating from the meeting of the members of 1930's Executive Committee who convened on the weekend of January 26 and 27 at "The Keenes" in Etna, N. H. (See accompanying photo.) Prior to the meeting Bud French had advised the membership of the Executive Committee that because of the requirements of his business he found it necessary to resign his office as Chairman of the Memorial Fund for 1930, which position he has held since establishment of the Fund on behalf of the Class of 1930 several years ago. It was with the deepest and most sincere regret that this news from Bud was received. The Class should know that, under Bud's leadership, our Memorial Fund is now larger than was the Fund of any other class participating in the MemoriarFund program at a similar date in advance of its 25th Reunion.
The ready willingness of Cliff Michel to accept his unanimous appointment as successor to Bud in chairmanning 1930's Memorial Fund is a sure indication that the foundation work laid by Bud will be well carried on and developed in the future. Cliff is a partner in the brokerage firm of Carl M. Loeb, Rhoades & Co. in New York City, has chairmanned fund-raising campaigns in New York for the Travelers Aid Society, and is presently a Director and Chairman of the fund-raising activities for the National Society for the Prevention of Blindness. The Class of 1930 is indeed fortunate in having Cliff at the helm.
The Executive Committee spent several hours in a careful discussion of various Class affairs. Those in attendance at the meeting (although the wives carefully absented themselves during the business session) included Celie and Bud French, Mildred and Charlie Ranch, Margot and Si Chandler, Carol and Carl Haffenreffer, Ceil and Vic Borella, Blanche and Mac Mclnnes, Barbara and FredScribner, Larry and Charlie Widmayer, Lucia and AI Dickerson, Eddie Jeremiah, Lee Chilcote and Caroline and Alex McFarland. In addition „to the official group, the 1930 contingent of the weekend of course included our genial hostess and host, Louise and Bob Keene, and on Saturday of the weekend we were pleased to see Liz and Phil Peck who drove over from Glens Falls. Barbara and Al McGrath were prevented by sudden sickness in the family from making the meeting and Deedee and Chuck Faye came as far North as New York City from Florida on their way to the meeting, only to find that Chuck had to turn at right angles and leave immediately for the West Coast. Needless to say, the weekend was not entirely one of business, and, to put it mildly, a "mellow" time was had by all in the most delightful atmosphere of "The Keenes." Thanks to Eddie Jeremiah, who made special seating arrangements for the group on both occasions, we were able to witness two thrilling hockey games between the Big Green and Boston College and Army on successive nights.
