One day in mid-October the Boston Herald published a substantial-sized picture in which Joe Cronin, general manager of the Red Sox, was shown signing a document, flanked on one side by Robert B. Choate, publisher of the Herald, and on the other side by none other than Carl Haffenreffer. As for the story, Carl was not signing up with the Red Sox, nor did it disclose that he had purchased an interest in the Club. The picture was occasioned by the signing of a two-year contract as a result of which New Englanders will hear the broadcasts of the Red Sox home baseball games over Station WHDH, as well as the television of those games over other stations, with the compliments of a distributor of petroleum products and a brewer and dispenser of that "rich, creamy and mellow," Naragansett Brewing Company, of which Carl is treasurer.

If Van VanDerbeck carried a look of undue concern during early October, that and more was fully justified. Doris and Van returned from a most enjoyable Vermont vacation the latter part of September only to find, upon unlocking the front door of their home, that the living room ceiling was lying on the floor with attendant disorder throughout the house. The misfortune was repaired in due time, but it is probably true that both Doris and Van were ready for another vacation upon completion of the clean-up job Dr.Hub Christman journeyed to the American Medical Association meeting on the West Coast this last summer and saw Chuck Faye in San Francisco, where Hub, Chuck and BillDoran represented 1930 at a Dartmouth Club weekly luncheon. Hub also ran into Dr. AILeslie at the meeting, Al being Chief of Medical Service at a Veterans Administration Hospital in Los Angeles. The next meeting of the Association is in Cleveland during December and both Hub and Cliff Vogt are on the Committee arranging the program for that meeting.

The Public Relations Society of America elected Freddy Bowes as Secretary of the So ciety for 1950. Fred is Manager of Advertising and Public Relations of Pitney-Bowes, Inc. in Stamford, Conn Kel Richards is headquartering at the Library Plaza Hotel in Evanston, 111., during this winter but says that he and his wife certainly plan to return to Tucson after their stay during this winter "up North.".... Our congratulations to Dr.Herm Sander who was elected President of the Manchester Alumni Association at its October meeting Lee Chilcote combined a business trip to the West Coast during October with plans to stop off in Colorado for some deer and elk hunting. We heard of the plans before the trip and don't know the results but Lee was hopeful that he could persuade Ned Grant to join the hunting party.

Clevelanders may well see more of HughieJ'ohnson in view of the fact that Hugh Johnson & Company, Inc. have recently opened a Cleveland office The Hanover Inn reports a goodly number of 1930 visitors during this fall. It looks as if the McBimeys from Tulsa, the George Fredricksons from Norwood and Red Alcorn from Suffield, Conn., were enjoying the North Country color during the same weekend.

The best of wishes to everyone in the 1930family for a most Merry Christmas and aHappy and Prosperous New Year.
