A few weeks ago at the kick-off dinner in Boston for the Alumni Fund the gathering of Bryant, Amon, Devlin, and Bankart was privileged to hear words on the current problems the College is facing financially from various members of the Fund team, and including some sound expressions from President Dickey. This will be covered in a later Mint Bag. Just want to say here if you ever get a chance to hear this gent Charley Zimmerman '23, who is the ball of fire Chairman of the Fund, don't miss it. The guy has a story a minute that he slips in. Sample: An Aerologist is a specialist in the Navy who looks into a girl's eyes and can tell "weather." (We'll save the one about Mandy and Rastus for later.)

Devtin was saying that he had spent several weeks on a buying trip early this year all through Europe. Found it very interesting and if they can get the merchandise delivered into this country as bought it should turn out well.

A note from Frank Butler says he practiced law for three years in New York after the war and then, in 1948, pulled up stakes and moved to Lansing, Mich., where he is now in the home office legal department of the Auto Owners Ins. Co. He also carries a Lt. Commander's commission in the Navy Supply Corps with crossed fingers.

Don Miller still doing fine with magazine Scientific American (62 pages of ads in last Sept. issue), also added his third child, Mere- dith Ann, last September.

We have a letter in hand from Art Folk which we would like to quote as he has been missing from the news for some time.

"Moved out here a year ago January to take charge of the home office end of the Group Dept. of West Coast Life. Still there but don't know for how long. I am one of those . . . people who is a member of the organized Air Force Reserve and expect recall for five days soon for processing and then the two-years plus business shortly after. Can't say that I am looking forward to it but we should give the younger men of the country more and greater opportunity to play soldier (Agree. Ed.).

"Occasionally I have been to Alumni luncheons and have seen Tom Cohen. Also Art Hislop about a year ago at a similar dinner. . . . Recently heard from Connie Schuck who, besides being a professor at Buffalo State Teachers, is also a TV, radio, and stage actor. I realized TV was pretty bad but just pity Buffalo.

"Before signing off a word of advice to anyone coming to this part of California. Bring your umbrella, raincoat, and rubber boots. Not because of rain, you understand, but that fog is so thick."

This department received a plain envelope in the mail recently from no one, apparently, as there was no signature—just said the following: "Bill Douglas and John Wright are now on the staff of the Vice-President, Manufacturing Policy, for the General Electric in Schenectady. They are responsible for the administration of National Production Authority regulations regarding priorities and critical materials." Looks like congratulations and a Wah Hoo Wah are in order here.

Gus Farwell writes that he has moved out to Fairfield, Conn., and taken over an old barn which he had revamped to suitable modern accommodations. Seems they now have more than enough room from the following quote "and up in the attic there's room for A and B companies, while out in the back pasture we can locate C company" so if any battalions of '37s march through look up Fort Farwell. Seems, too, that Gus got everything moved in on Dec. 12, then on the following day Ginnie came home with brand new son John who, incidentally, weighed in at 10 lbs. 14 oz.! Fairfield is also the location of Ike Collins who commutes daily to N. Y. where he works with Lever Bros. Another neighbor is John Chapman recently given full notice in these pages. Gus says he runs into John Palumbo, BobDeVarney, Stew Naramore and Bill Ashe once in a while as they all live within spittin' distance of Bridgeport.

MORE LETTERS

Next on the docket is a letter from BobCameron who, to the best of our records, has not had mention in the class notes for a long time. Says he:

"Briefly, moved to Easton, Pa., in 1941 and started a Home Furnishings store and warehouse business. Still engaged in same field. Spent short time in the service (Air Corps) and returned to my business. Moved this past year to Oldwich, N. J., way back in the woods and I don't exaggerate a bit. Am married with one son John, eight. Horses, mutts, clucks, and other misc. pets surround 200- year-old stone house. Am in touch with Art Ruggles through the mails every so often. Health is good, weight down, hair greying, etc., and our home is but a few minutes from Princeton whence we repair when the Big Green comes to town. Country life is wonderful, even have a stream that goes past within 100 feet of the house that is heavily stocked with trout every spring. Fact is, I have finally settled in the country like so many others. Even tho' we have had no success growing dollar bill trees in the back yard, what the h. . .

Thanks, Bob, don't be such a stranger and keep us posted.

This month, engraver willing, we have a picture submitted in answer to our frequent request, from Dr. John Herman's files. If any others have similar pictures that would make interesting nostalgia we can use them. It doesn't seem possible but this picture was taken 18 years ago.

SPOT SHOTS

At the annual meeting in Boston recently of the New Hampshire Weekly Publishers we find Bill Rotch elected first vice-president.. . . In Cranford, N. J., Ray Bauer has been elected vice-president of the Linden Trust Co. He has been a director since 1945 and is Sec./Treas. of the C. H. Winans Cos. in Elizabeth.. . . HamMathes has received his degree at midyear from Harvard University and is now a Doctor of Philosophy. . .. Em Brightman now Assistant to the VP in charge of merchandising with the Grand Union Cos. (Grocery chain). He was in charge of the research dept. for the past year. ... Whitey Fuller is headed back to active duty again with the Navy.. .. Also along that same line there's a report from Rochester, N. Y., that Mrs. Lynn Brown is leaving to join her husband in Manila and that Lynn who commanded a PT boat during WW2 had been recalled to active duty last October. He had been with the Eastman Kodak Co. on their editorial staff.

Please bear with us if we issue a couple of reminders, (1) On the Alumni Fund if you're going to give anyway why not early, give realistically, and give some serious thought when you do? (2) If you can send back the questionnaires from the Mint' Bag it will help a great deal to keep fresh news running through these pages.

Let's see now—Mandy and Rastus came before the Justice of the Peace and said they wanted to be married.. .. Sorry, they say we haven't got room this month.
