THE 100th anniversary of the death of Daniel Webster, which occurred October 24, 1852, will be doubly observed by the College this month, first at a special convocation to be held in Webster Hall on Dartmouth Night, October 17, and secondly at a graveside ceremony at Marshfield, Mass., on October 24.
At the Webster Convocation in Hanover, the memorial address will be delivered by Claude M. Fuess '31h, biographer and leading authority on Webster's life. Other speakers will be President Dickey and Brock Brower '53, president of Palaeopitus. Later in the evening an outdoor rally for the Rutgers game will be held on the campus.
Dartmouth's part in the observance at Marshfield will consist of the presentation of a bronze tablet by President Dickey on behalf of the Trustees of the College. The tablet, imbedded in a block of New Hampshire granite, will stand within the enclosed Webster lot in the historic Winslow Cemetery. The community program at Marshfield is scheduled for Friday afternoon, October 24, at 2 p.m. Senators Lodge and Saltonstall of Massachusetts will be among the speakers. All Dartmouth alumni are invited and it is expected that many from the Boston area will attend. In case of rain, the program will be held in the Marshfield High School.
