It is a great pleasure to present below some of the highlights of the '23 Alumni Fund job this year, a job which made us high class on the totem pole for the second year in a row, with the largest class contributions made by any class in the history of the fund.
The Breakdown
52 men made smaller gifts in 1952 than 1951. 217 men made gifts equal to their 1951 contributions.
106 men increased their gifts as against the previous year.
23 men who did not contribute in 1951 made gifts in 1952, two of these made gifts for the first time.
There are 48 men, "the Regulars," who have each made gifts in every year since graduation. The cumulative total of their gifts during this entire period amounts to $48,506.63. Twelve of these Regulars have given a total of $33,353.45, while the top five men in the group have given a total of §22,353.45.
In the '52 campaign, 67 men each gave $100 or more, for a total of $13,553.91.
192 men made no contribution to the '52 campaign.
The roster of the 48 "Regulars," those men who have given every year since graduation, for totals ranging from $112 to $9654.75, is as follows: Alcorn, Allen (J. C.), Baldwin S. and Baldivin V., Briscoe, Cannon, Carpenter (R.),Charles, Clough, Corrigan, Cullen, Davis (F.),Dixson, Donovan, Doten, Foster, Gaver, Haggart, Height, Hilton, Jellison, Jones (C. Second Annual '23 Family Weekend in Hanover
Ivan Martin and Freddy Clark, co-chairmen of this event, have firmed up the dates February 27 and 28. The Father and Son Dinner will be Friday night, the 27th. The Family Party is scheduled for Saturday night, the 28th. A block of reservations at the Inn are sewed up. Our first try at a winter reunion was so successful last winter that we promptly set up a repeat for this winter, and cancelled out the idea of another summer reunion this past summer. All the enthusiasts who were on deck last winter are expected to do it again, with a flock of new recruits in tow.
Sparked by that live-wire committee in Boston, a bunch of '23s gathered opposite Harvard Stadium gates 12 and 14 before the game for a picnic. Our informant neglected to say whether or not Walt Friend furnished free beans, but beans or no beans, the picnic idea is a good one, and is commended to the bunch around New Haven for implementation next fall before the Yale game.
The following is quoted from a note at hand from Babe Miner: "On Sept. 23 seven '23 men in this area gathered together at the Longmeadow Country Club for the usual cocktails, dinner and rehash of the years since 1919. Bill Gates from Greenfield, and Hal McKenna, George Ferguson, Len Truesdale, DinPope, George Weston and the writer all from Springfield and Longmeadow were present. The only vote taken was for the youngest looking man in the group, and Bill Gates, father of two Dartmouth sons, won hands down. We're looking forward to next year.... Best to you, Babe Miner."
We still have hopes —albeit faint hopes that the peerless SKIDDOO is about to come out with an issue covering all the various goings-on which occurred to celebrate '23 Night in other parts of the country. Perhaps we will have to change the date from now on to coincide with St. Patrick's Day in order to provoke the Irishman into action!
