At its annual meeting in Hanover on November 7, the Executive Committee regretfully accepted Ken Hill's resignation as Class Secretary; hence the new name at the head of this column. One can do no better on such an occasion than to paraphrase Jefferson when he followed Franklin as Minister to France, "I shall succeed him but I cannot replace him." Ken's devoted service to the Class and the College during many years has been an inspiration, as our associations with him have been a delight, to all those who have shared his efforts in lesser degree.

By the time this issue of the ALUMNI MAGAZINE is published, every member of the Class will already have received a booklet containing the major reports submitted at the annual meeting. Other matters which came up for consideration and discussion will be covered in the next Roundup. And since one man is now both Rounder-up and Secretary, you're going to have to read both the newsletter and this MAGAZINE for there's no telling where the chips will fall.

In addition to those previously reported, the following were registered at the Hanover Inn during recent weeks: Mr. and Mrs Jock Brace, and daughter Ann, Mr. and Mrs. Carter Bennett, Nate Bugbee, Mr. and Mrs. Brad Foss,Mr. and Mrs. Connie Kurtz, Bill Thompson.

Eddie Pease has seen every Dartmouth football game so far this season. The Columbia game helped him to get his second wind, and he is heading for Ithaca and Princeton in high hopes. At West Point he met FrankWallis and Ellie, and, except for the game itself, they had a fine weekend together. Without going into the actual statistics, it would seem that 1925 has turned out an unusual number of bank presidents. Such a one is Bill Boies of the Naugatuck National Bank of Naugatuck, Conn. He writes that his daughter Sue is bringing home for the Thanksgiving holiday a schoolmate from Dana Hall who is, by one of those coincidences, the daughter of Scott Lowry. Scott is an attorney in Waukesha, Wis. Gene Callis, vice-president and general manager of Tinicum Terminoil Inc. of Bala-Cynwyd, Pa., has announced approval of PAD of construction of a 2 million barrel terminal in the Philadelphia area.

The combination of the meeting and the Columbia game brought a goodly crowd of Twenty-fivers and their wives to Hanover.' No census was taken, but the following were definitely encountered, and if any were around whose names are missing, their forgiveness is bespoke and a note of correction will be welcome: Kathryn and Ben Bowden,Mary and Francis Brown, Frances and HarryClarke, Elbra and Jack Davis, Blanche andChet Eaton, Alice and Milt Emerson, Virginiaand Pete Haffenreffer, Mary and Dan Harris,Catherine and Bob McKennan, Lucille andKen Montgomery, Edith and Ed Ober, Caroline and Bob Pierce, Marjorie and Fred Smith,Emily and Herb Talbot, Velma and RadTanzer, Gertrude and Ford Whelden, ConnieConrad, Phil Coykendall, Ken Hill, EddiePease, Bill Pugh, Fair Sawyer, Homer Tilton,Tippy Tower, and Whitey White. Most of these gathered for refreshments at the Norwich Inn after the game, where also appeared a few offspring, Bob Pierce '53, Bill Ober '54, Geoff Talbot '54, Doug Archibald '55 and Bill Conrad '55. Lou Kimball's lovely daughter Barbara was there too, dining with some lucky guy, but Lou and Adeline, unfortunately, couldn't make it. A good meeting, a fine game, and a grand party combined to make a memorable weekend.

The coincidence of a new class secretary and an impending deadline has made the writing of these notes the inescapable final act of an otherwise completely enjoyable reunion. So here it is Sunday afternoon, and the cheering and carousing are over; and snow, in the air and on the ground, makes a backdrop more appropriate to Carnival than Fall House Parties. The Inn lobby is filled with undergraduates and their dates, and the desk is besieged by several score young females who must stay over an extra night because of road conditions. Fortunately, most of the guests of maturer years got away early in the day, before the storm, so there is room for all. The escorts don't seem too unhappy about it, although there may be some emergency financing involved, and some of the Sunday evening hours reserved for study are going to be otherwise occupied.

The campus, white in the dusk with more snow drifting down, has a look of classic familiarity. Winter is born, in this countryside, more beautifully than it dies. The fine austere lines of Dartmouth Row are clean and strong in the fading light. For a moment, past and present are one, and over the scene hovers a sense of the continuity of human aspiration, of man's dignity and fellowship and his endless struggle for wisdom and beauty. And in that moment, the essence of Dartmouth is revealed.
