Being still very new at this job as your Class Secretary, I don't know for sure whether I am stepping over the bounds of propriety in mentioning this, but if you don't find your name in the list appended to these class notes you have no one but yourself to blame, and, I might add, you can very easily correct the situation by seeing to it that you send your check to Cookie soon. Having put in this plug for the Alumni Fund, I'll proceed to the business at hand.
The most important news of the month concerns the election of Doane Arnold to the post of second vice president of the New England Mutual Life Insurance Company. Doane has been with this company since 1930, and prior to this promotion was assistant secretary and manager of the underwriting department; the latter of these posts he still holds. After having heard this news from many sources, I finally received a note from Doane himself, in which he attributes all his success to the fact that he finally managed to get rid of the job of Class Secretary. Much as I hate to argue, I think that you will all agree that it is a case of well-deserved recognition of merit.
A very belated piece of news concerns the election of Charlie Gibson as president of the South Carolina Textile Manufacturers Association. Charlie is president of Calhoun Mills and F. W. Poe Manufacturing Co.
The October 19 Boston Sunday Herald carried a picture from the Rutgers game, showing Emery Pierson, son of Dick Pierson, firststring defensive tackle for the Big Green, stopping a Rutgers ball carrier close to the line of scrimmage.
As announced in the last issue, the New York contingent held a very successful dinner at the Dartmouth Club on the evening of October 30. Sam Wormser was chairman of the committee in charge of arrangements, assisted by Joe Russakoff and Roy Dreher. Present were Bunny Smith, Ken Murray, DonO'Hara, Jack Jones, Sid Voice, Ed Fry, OrrieHerwitz, Herbie Howe, Guy Bostwick, FredPage, Art Kelleher, Tom Hession, Lee Greenebautn, Josh Davis, and the commiiteee. SpenceCook and Tom Gillespie dropped in for drinks, but couldn't stay for dinner. During the evening, during the discussion about the regular spring dinner, Ken Murray, Bunny Smith, and Jack Jones announced that they were scheduling a dinner for January 22, and offered bets that they would get a bigger turnout than the spring dinner in April. As a result, there are now two dinners scheduled for New York one on January 22, and the other on April 23. The committee for the April dinner consists of Herbie Howe, Art Kelleher, and Tom Hession. If any of you are planning to be in New York during the winter or spring, make a note of the dates and see if you can't make your trip coincide with one of these dinners. Give your support to the committee of your choice, and may the best man win!
Recent visitors to the Hanover Inn were Mr. and Mrs. Sykes Hardy, Mr. and Mrs. DonO'Hara and Charlie Bartlett.
Ray Ring has finally broken a long silence to report that he is living in Short Falls, N. H., and commuting to Boston where he has his own commercial art studio at 2 Park Square. He has one daughter, Marcia, who graduated from Pembroke and is now married and residing in Columbus, Ohio. Ray says that his ambition is to run another comic magazine similar to Jacko.

Don't forget that the end of December is also the end of our opportunity to add to the Class of 1927 Memorial Fund. As of now we are still considerably short of our self-imposed goal, and there are a lot of us who have either not given at all, or want to add to what we have already given. This is the last call, so send your checks to Gus Cummings at P. O. Box 1927, Pittsburgh 30, Pa. Let's all put Dartmouth on our Christmas lists.
